April 15th meeting

Today was a short meeting. The head coach for men's swimming, Jay Holmes,  gave an update on the mens swimming program. They have done a phenomenal job of being competitve in the big twelve in recent years. We are lucky to have an amazing facility, as well as a great training staff.

February 18 Cox-McFerrin Center for Aggie Basketball

This meeting was rather short, simply received updates. Kevin Hurley talked about the new athletic facilities that are under construction, and a trip that one group recently made to tour other athletic facilities across the country to see how our new facilities and renovations compare. Apparantly we have some of the best facilities around, which gives us an edge in recruiting new coaches and players in some cases.

We also received updates regarding the mid semester academic progress, and any necessary sanctions that were necessary for compliance with the NCAA.

January 21, 2009 Meeting

At the last Athletic Council, we approved the letter awards for cross country and volleyball.  Also, we had the opportunity to hear from two fantastic speakers.  Jo Evans, the head softball coach, gave us an update and a preview of Aggie Softball.  A&M is ranked fifth to start the year.  Furthermore, she holds her players to a high level of accountability.

At this meeting we heard a number of updates regarding athletic programs, and then took a tour of the new Gilliam Indoor Track facility.

The first Update was from Brittany Lentz, the Aggie Athletes Involved President. She shared about a recent successful community event, in whicha number of aggie athletes educated 2nd grade children from the Bryan/College station school systems on bicycle safety and the importance of wearing helmets. Each child also received a free helmet!

Sitting at the same table as Bill Byrne and other athletic personnel is down right amazing.  What is even more amazing is that these individuals, along with the others present, will take time out of their day before and after the meeting and talk with you about anything from chupacabras to Aggie Athletics.
